Have you ever done something nice...

So the other day i was grabbing a pot out from the drawer below the oven. My hand rubbed against the bottom of the oven door and felt something rough. i proceeded to pull off the rough part and was reminded of this story that i have to share:
a lady in our ward has a husband with cancer and they knew it was getting to be time for him to pass on soon (young family, very sad). so they asked the RS to bring meals for the next couple of weeks to help them be able to just spend time together. so i signed up to bring a meal in two weeks. i planned the meal, got the groceries and started to prepare the meal. i started at about three o'clock to be able to bake sugar cookies, a pot pie for them and a pot pie for us. As i started making the sugar cookies i thought about how i would decorate them, then i had a better idea: i would take them the stuff so that they could have a fun activity with their kids decorating cookies. as i continued on making the meals, i felt so good and happy and just knew that they would be so delighted with tonight's meal. what a wonderful woman i was. of course, time was an issue because my sis.-in-law was a having a scentsy party at seven that i had committed to go to. plenty of time, though, right? did i mention that chicken pot pie is one of our favorite meals, but i usually only make it when i'm taking dinner to someone else. so i get everything all ready, all packed (of course in "no-need-to-return" packaging) and i go to find the house. dark, slippery, awkward (what do you say in a situation like this??) but none the less i get it all dropped of, without a hitch. go lis. get home just in time to take out our own pot pie from the oven and scarf it down before i go to the party. perfect, lis. you're mama taught you good.i get home just as the buzzer is sounding, signalling that the pie is ready for our enjoyment. it smells so good. it will taste so great on a cold night like this. can't wait. so i take out the pot pie and some how... still not sure how... all a blur... this beautiful labor of love ends up sliding completely out of the pan and dumping completely all over the junction between the oven door and the floor of the oven. dirty oven. dirty oven door. beautiful pie. time to go. how did this happen??? i was tempted to cry, but somehow it wasnt' fitting. the only thing to do was clean it up, throw it out and eat microwaved totino's pizza rolls and a few microwaved chicken nuggets. what a disapointment! i was tempted to invite our selves to dinner at the house where i dropped off the meal. i felt so bothered that i had made such a beautiful meal for someone else, and gotten nothing out of it for my own family. but as i remembered the event this last week when i found all that chicken pot pie STILL in the oven door i felt greatful that no one needed to bring me a meal for a sick husband. the man has since passed. i cleaned out more chicken pot pie from the oven door, and thought. "what does a little pot pie in the oven door really matter?"
