So the old man across the street died this summer. seemed like a nice guy. what really seemed nice? his house.
Now keep in mind that we live in a small house on a small lot in the "university" (meaning old) part of town. lovingly referred to as "the avenues". I love our area because it's got lots of neat looking old houses (mixed in of course with the not so neat ones). Take our little block for example. on the opposite side of the street (where this house is) there are three, big, historic looking houses. on our side. 6 small, old, but not historic looking houses. don't get me wrong, i fell in love with our house the second we saw it, it has its share of charm. but the old man's house... well, it's one of those diamond in the rough type houses. great yard (we already know the neighbors), plenty of room... so we've been watching it. saying, "we should go look at it" for several months now. the price keeps dropping, it's a buyers market...
so we finally went and looked at it. i'm in love.
big enough we could stay there forever. great features. needs a lot of updating (mostly cosmetic), but isn't that the fun part? so needless to say; instead of blogging, cleaning, doing laundry, etc. i have been punching the numbers. trying to figure out a way to make it work. it's got to work, right? if we just.. or maybe if i... or we could...
but i think i've almost convinced myself to stay on easy street (ha, at least this side of it) with our minimal mortgage, wait until we get this one all dolled up and the market is better for sellers...almost convinced myself...

Lovely!
ReplyDeleteGood luck, in uh, whatever you do! The heavens shining down on it all the time might make that house awfully hot, just something to keep in mind.
We keep saying we need to start number crunching too and see what we can get. My spouse is hoping that Obama will create great incentives for first time home buyers.
Be strong, be strong, be strong.
